GBX Group, Kupperman Companies and REV Birmingham Announce the Acquisition and Preservation of the William H. Hassinger House

 BIRMINGHAM, AL - GBX Group LLC and Kupperman Companies, LLC proudly announce the acquisition of the historic William H. Hassinger House, located at 2028 Highland Avenue South in Birmingham’s Five Points South Historic District. This property is one of only two remaining grand residences from the lower leg of Highland Avenue, and it has been protected with a historic preservation agreement with REV Birmingham, Inc. that will ensure the property’s historic façade is protected in perpetuity. 

“The 1898-built William H. Hassinger house is a beautiful 12,000 square-foot Victorian style house that has served as a primary residence, business office, and its current use as a bed and breakfast. We are excited to preserve, rebrand and reposition this historic Birmingham residence for the guests of tomorrow,” said Drew Sparacia, CEO of GBX Group. “We have worked with REV Birmingham, Inc. to place a historic preservation agreement on the property to protect the architectural heritage and historic character of the William H. Hassinger House as we prepare the building to meet the needs of future generations.”

By leveraging various federal, state, and local incentive programs, such as historic tax credits and historic preservation agreements, GBX and project partners can access critical, non-traditional financing sources that makes preserving these important assets economically viable. A GBX fund, managed by GBX Fund Management Ltd., partnered with Kupperman Companies, LLC to acquire the William H. Hassinger House. With the addition of the Hassinger House, GBX companies have acquired and protected five historic properties across the city.

GBX, with Kupperman Companies, LLC, is currently assessing plans to better serve the Birmingham hospitality market.
